Read.East.Listen: Sunshine

Yay for end-of-summer sunny days.
Read: I think Michael Chabon's book 'Telegraph Avenue' may be required reading for anyone living in our kaleidoscopic East Bay with its home birthing, jazz, Black Panthers,  and easy references to Alice Waters and yoga. You can read and listen to part of the new novel, set in Oakland and Berkeley, via NPR:  Exclusive First Read: Michael Chabon's 'Telegraph Avenue.'
Eat: Kale Chips. Bless my dehydrator and blender. Making kale chips is easy and much cheaper when gobbling them by the store-bought bagful.  Ingredients: wash and tear up into pieces 1 large bunch of  kale. Set aside. S oak 1 cup cashews 2-3 hrs, then blend with 1 red bell pepper, seeded and chopped, 3  tablespoons fresh squeezed lemon juice, 1/2 cup water and addPaprika, garlic, tamarai, salt to taste. Toss with kale. Place on dehydrator trays at 120 degrees and dehydrate til crispy.

Listen: Gotta admire Cat Power for going through it all on her way to her latest, Sun.:
