"Writing is a struggle against silence." ~ Carlos Fuentes
There's recording gear all over the house: mics, cables, various instruments. On the road to Oregon last week, we gave ourselves a little challenge to write a song each day (in the car, at rest-stops, a cafe during the conference and in Mieko's back-yard) and now we're home, putting them down on 'tape' to work with a bunch more. I'd been feeling a bit sluggish with my writing, doing it but uncertain of what I was saying, a bit more critical, and therefore, not letting much out of the house. This, I suppose, is the bane of having written for some years now. I'm more critical than I used to be which is one big trap, self-criticism squashing creativity from the barely get-go. So I'm back to enjoying the mess of it on the way to things finding their shape: the uncertainty, the errant cables and guitar cases, scratched out chords and verses.

I identify with the criticism and growth issue. Glad you found your way back to the mess!
Thanks Karen :)
