My fellow songwriter Kwame Copeland, was also home sick in the East Bay today. Because he generously offered to loan me his electric guitar last time we gigged together, he wrote me working out logistics. When we realized we were both home sick, I jokingly wrote too bad we weren't neighbors we could write 'a super woeful song' (we both tend to write sad ones) and he took the bait. A back-and-forth email exchange ensued, the unedited version follows (we'll have to work out music arrangements in person):
Woe is me,
by Kwame Copeland and Deborah Crooks, 8-28-08
Oh woe is me, I feel like shit
Oh woe is me, my back hurts quite a bit
Oh shucks oh darn I can't go to work
Oh woe is me don’t wanna be a jerk
Oh woe. Woe. Woe. Woooooooooeee...
Oh woe is me, my nose is blocked
Oh woe is me, can't even talk
Oh shucks oh darn, I can't go to work
Oh woe is me, I've left folks in the lurch
Oh woe. Woe. Woe. Wooooooooooooo
Bridge:
But at least I (cough)

Needs more cowbell :)
cowbell would be perfect. And maybe a string bass
Especially like "it's all gone berserk." On behalf of listeners everywhere, let's hope the two of you feel better real soon!
