Nothing like a little unofficial guidance from some highly accomplished artists to put things in perspective while midstream on a bunch of projects. Amid a week of rehearsing, listening, working, et. al, were a board meeting for Deborah Slater Dance Theater and a vocal session with Faith Winthrop. Both esteemed Bay Area women have made a life of their art. Faith, whose mentored many, many Bay Area-and-beyond vocalists is gearing up to do some more recording herself. And after 20+ years creating theater pieces, Slater's Co. is looking to have one of its biggest years yet, including an appearance at NY's Joyce Theater in '09. I'm signed on for their schools of keeping one's creative flame burning amid the mysteries.
