the cafe la vie

I came home from work Monday to the sounds of music spilling onto Octavia St. from the Cafe La Vie. Earlier in the week, I'd brought Rachel, one of the baristas who initiated and now hosts the event, my old Revel PA and speaker to serve as the house system. The evening was mild enough so that the windows were rolled up and the music could be enjoyed from both indoor and sidewalk seats. Half familiar faces from the neighborhood, and half other artists and poets who'd heard of the new performance opportunity shared their poetry, harmonica blues and traditional folk, owner George Hom and neighbors listening bemusedly from the sidewalk. I went home, got my guitar and played three songs. Of course it was fun to play "Cafe La Vie" at the Cafe La Vie, and simply walk across the street to go home.
It's very much a songwriter week, with Sunday and last night given to performance, song group tonight, Songsalive! Wednesday, Abel's Farley's gig Thursday ... Friday is the only night without something song-related on the calendar.
